Kevin Contreras’ work is an exploration of me finding my place in the world around him. As a person born in Mexico but primarily raised in the United States, it has proven difficult to find a space that truly captures his lived experience. The constant struggle of feeling alien even in the familiar is the driving force of his use of the robot motif in my work. This body of work takes familiar spaces and attempts to use the robot to disrupt them while playing with the idea of familiarity.
