Past Workshops • Compose a Loom with Taylor Barnes

I was pleased to host Texas-based artist Taylor Barnes at Eyeland. On a chilly afternoon, Taylor led us to create Loom-as-Objects out of found organic materials. First, she showed us to choose and lash together found sticks. After hammering in tiny nails all along the top and bottom sticks, we wound a warp around the nails and started to weave. There was a wide range of materials everyone brought to weave with–from moss to fresh grasses and weeds. The final piece was a representation of the day, and of the abundance of life in the mountains around us.
