False Door Gallery presents “Room With a View,” a collaborative exhibition featuring paintings, sculptures and fiber works by Kevin Contreras and Anna Galluzzi. Exploring themes of community, belonging, and play, Galluzzi and Contreras will create an immersive space for viewers to become a part of the work and reflect on what it means to curate their own “view” in the mundanity of everyday life, while also serving as a love letter to their friends and loved ones that support their artistic practice.

Kevin Contreras is an artist based in Denton, Texas whose work blends realism with highly graphic and vibrant elements to create work that is pensive yet joyful. Originally born in Mexico, Kevin immigrated to Texas as a child and has called North Texas home for over 20 years. He has a BFA in Printmaking and a MEd in Higher Education, both from UNT. His work is an exploration of his identity as an immigrant that has had a mostly Americanized upbringing and the tension it creates when trying to find a sense of community.

Anna Galluzzi is a DFW based interdisciplinary artist and educator. While originally from the Texas Hill Country, Galluzzi relocated to DFW to receive their BA from University of Texas at Dallas and MFA from Texas Woman’s University. They currently teach art at Tarrant County College and Texas State Technical College. Their work has been exhibited across the state of Texas at Cain Gallery at Del Mar College, 500X Gallery and Zona 7 Gallery among others. Utilizing mixed media, their work advocates for cultivating joy and coping with the present. They are heavily inspired by the Pattern & Decoration movement, childhood whimsy and all things kitsch.
