Don’t Forget to Lock the Door explores four artists' interpretations of home through the lens of childhood and memory. Nailah Otunba’s work examines transitional spaces through crude replicas of fine china, mimicking perceived expectations of success. Faith Chandler’s work attempts to disrupt the stagnant familial dynamics left in the wake of her father’s death using recycled and found materials, reflecting how clutter was consistently prioritized over care. Ella’s work utilizes the distortion of figure and environment to explore how memory and experience can stain a domestic space. Kat Harfoot uses painting to reflect on the nostalgic contradictions between the familial archive and memory through warping and preserving fleeting figures and moments from childhood. The artists' varying disciplines catalyze a multi-dimensional, cohesive reflection of their formative stomping grounds. Spanning from infanthood to adolescence, Don’t Forget to Lock the Door immerses the viewer into the artists’ cognitive archive.
