FIber is a common material and process, yet it has the potential to contain meaning and symbolism. In this three week course, we will take notice of the fiber world around us and practice some major fiber techniques, including weaving, embroidery, natural dye, and coiling. 

Embroidery on wool | Native Appalachian shapes + symbols | Color study

Weaving | Navajo history | Indigo 

Coiling | Local natural dyes | Appalachian Basketry history

Instructor: Originally from the piney woods in Mississippi, Delaney Smith found her way to West North Carolina after years of dreaming about it. She has a BFA in Graphic Design, an MFA in Fibers, and has been teaching and making art for the better part of the past decade.

Location: Magictown Movement Studio is a charming space, nestled in the French Broad River valley, in Downtown Marshall North Carolina. Take a class with our caring & experienced teachers, small class sizes and scenic location. Enjoy, unwind & celebrate embodiment!

Access: Magictown Movement Studio is located on the second floor of a renovated high school with no elevator. There is a lift to access the first floor, and there is one flight of stairs to access the second floor.
